Tire Ad
Here’s our first TV ad with Cooper Tires on them. I think it’s a real strong ad.

Here’s our first TV ad with Cooper Tires on them. I think it’s a real strong ad.
So here’s our newest latest Flyer that just came out in your newspaper yesterday. That is if you still get the newspaper. Circulation at the newspapers has fallen so much that it’s a concern to us that we’re missing so many customers. Now the flyer is out there on our website but that’s for the customers that want it.
We’ve tried setting up a mailing list of those that want to see it, but that hasn’t worked either. We do have copies in the stores for our customers to pick up, but that doesn’t bring new people to the the store.
This has been a GREAT flyer for us the past few years. Let’s hope that it keeps on.
I want to point out the fantastic deal we’ve got going for fathers day. If you buy a pair of Carhartt pants (excluding shorts) you will get a FREE polo shirt. Not only is that a great deal in itself, but we have a fastastical price for the B17 Carhartt Jeans. That’s a special price that Carhartt has only authorized until fathers day. I’m thinking that they should get a lot of people giving their jeans a test drive with a price like that.

Pages two and three are heavy into the clothes that make H of E’s clothing selection one of a kind. We are massively strong in Jeans, workwear and boots.

Check out the Weber grills at the top of the page. We’ve been emphasizing Grills for a year now and we are happy with the effect.
Another must buy on page 4 is the mosquito repellent. I was out back in the yard last night and I didn’t dare stop for a moment.

Pages 6 and 7 are big in lawn and garden. You can see we have the Off on the top of Page 7. For some reason the Off products have always been in the Lawn and Garden department and the other products in our Sporting Goods. It mad some sense in the past because we bought Off from a L & G source and the other products from Sporting Goods sources. What doesn’t make sense is to advertise the product on different pages and display them apart from each other. I never said we were perfect.

Check out the Purina on our animal page. That’s really taken off well in the last couple weeks.

Page 9 is our housewares and toys along with some Home Improvement Departments. We DO have air conditioners in Grand Forks, but not every store so we can’t advertise them in the flyer.

Pages 10 and 11 are our farm and tool pages. We’ve got some great sellers here. We’re still seeing great growth in the Dewalt line. Another line to watch is those fill-right pumps. That’s an awesome line. Finally we’ve got a sump pump there. We didn’t sell as many this spring but they’re still going out the door.

The back page is normally reserved for Tires, Batteries and Automotive. We switched it up for once and put batteries on the front, “Life in the Fast Lane.” We’ve got some of our new Cooper tires on the back, so we aren’t getting that crazy.

Here’s our flyer to go with the TV ad below for our flyer. On the front page we’ve got pictured the Amish furniture. For the record the Amish is pretty much the biggest thing we’ve got going. I just can’t say enough about the quality and beauty of the furniture from these folks.

Page two has our Homecrest furniture. This stuff isn’t cheap but it’s so nice. I’ve got some on my porch that the frames are 40 years old. It’s held up.

Here we’ve got the Lane motion furniture. They make beautiful stuff. That must be why they sell more reclining furniture than anyone else in the country. We’ve also got some Howard Miller clocks there. We’ve got a full selection of Grandfather clocks that you have to check out. But what I’d really like personally is that Rythm Masters Musical wall clock. It’s a beautiful piece.

The back page has more Amish. Did I mention that the stuff is awesome? We’ve also got our Restonic Mattresses which seem to be a great product. Not only that they’re made here in Grand Forks so we can offer you a great price.
We’ve got the Memorial Weekend Furniture Sale running this weekend. Last year was the first time we went after this business and all I can say is what were we doing NOT having a Memorial Weekend Sale. We had a fantastic weekend.
I hope that we can grow on what we did last year. Time will tell. It’s not going to hurt that we have chances for rain on Saturday and Memorial Monday is going to be cool.
I hope you can come in, but if you don’t, have a GREAT weekend.
This is the Discoverer highway tread light truck and SUV tire. We’ve also got the ATV.
This looks to be a very nice tire for your car. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this tire.
Due to problems with the supply of the itres we are beginning to offer Cooper Tires to our offerings. It seems to us that we should do very well with this line.
Cooper makes a great tire. We’ve seen quite a few of our peers starting to sell their tire. What they say is that they are very well made without any problems.
Another thing that they’ll give us is the ability to restock faster. There’s getting to be SO many sizes out there that we can’t stock them all. With the Cooper line we can make the sale and know that we’ll have the tires the next day to install on the customers tires.
There’s been so many changes in the tire industry between manufacturing, new sizes and the global availability. We’re excited that we can take this step to grow with the industry.
I’m a bit late on the fishing ad. So here it is:
I think we did a good job on our product selection. That’s a great price on the minnow bucket. I’ve seen it advertised for 10 pucks a lot of the time.
The fishing rod sale should attract a wide spectrum of the fishing public. And letting the customers know that we have Rapala lures is a very good thing. That’s a great brand and we love to associate H of E with great brands.
Then we have the big scoops of live bait. The one thing that should get the consumers in the store is live bait each and every time they go fishing. At that point you have a chance to buy any of the stuff we carry across the store. We feel we save money by selling it by the scoop rather than counting it out. Plus its good PR!
Finally we have the marine batteries. When you think about it we sell a lot more marine batteries to fisherman than we do fishing line. It’s thinking a bit outside of the box but it’s a very good thing for us.
I once had a friend of my brother in law that lived south of Fargo say that he’s shopped everywhere between Fargo and Lake of the Woods and we have the best prices on fishing. My brother in law said that this guy was the type to obsess over the pricing. That’s nice to know.

I don’t have time to go over the flyer and talk about it. I’ve got a meeting right now to plan the July flyer. I’ll get through this in a bit. Even if nobody likes it, I think it helps ME to write about what I like about the flyers and what I don’t.

Today we got up the new treats from Purina. The big seller in this line is Begging Strips. I don’t know why they call them that. My dogs don’t beg. They demand.
Like the Purina pet foods I posted on the other day, we’ve got a pretty good offering of the treats. Of course what sells in the other stores doesn’t always go here and sometimes what we sell doesn’t do as well in other stores. I’m sure we’ll do good on the Begging Strips, but we’ll have to play it by ear to see what goes in the other treats.
We’re excited to be no able to offer Purina Dog and Cat foods to our customers. We’ve been working on this for a while but we weren’t going to do it until we were able to offer it at a competitive price.
Some might wonder why we’re doing this since we do so well with the Science Diet. Science Diet is great, but people have their preferences. If we don’t offer what they want they’ll get it somewhere else.
Here we have Dog Chow. At one time that was the #1 brand name in the market. I think that the premium products has taken over that but it’s still a powerful brand.
We do have the Beneful product. I haven’t been educated on this stuff yet, but I think that this is the Purina entry into the high quality food.
We do have the smaller packages. On the right you see the famous Puppy Chow. We’ve got that in large bags as well.
And we do have the Friskies brand of Cat Food now. I guess this is an huge player in the market. We don’t do our share of cat food in the Science Diet line. We do do VERY well in the lower priced product from Dura Life. Maybe it’s the Friskie brand that we’ve been missing.
It’ll be interesting. We’ve had Superific growth in the pet food lines and this is just one more thing that will make us a destination spot for your pet food.
Here’s our latest Wrangler ad. This isn’t exactly the form we’ll be running it in. We’ll put in some items and prices into the ad when we actually PAY for the ad to run.
I think it’s a great ad. Like our snowmobile ad it’s something that I think the customers will pay attention to.
When it comes to advertising I think you always have to be thinking about just how the ad is going to sell product. But you can’t just think about selling that product. You have to think about how it builds that brand and the brand of the store by itself.
I think this helps the public know that we are a big player in Wrangler Jeans (and other clothing.) After all how many local retailers are running ads like this? That will help sell product and build the Wrangler and H of E Brand. The other thing that will be added is the price and item that will let them know specifically that we have a buy that they want to participate in.
